8) Go to THE WEDGE and watch the crazies - The Wedge is a skimboarding, surfing, bodyboarding and bodysurfing spot located at the extreme east end of the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. Next to the jetty the waves come in at an angle and then leap up high before crashing down on the beach. For some reason good surfers and bodysurfers alike take this as a big challenge – to catch a wave and duck out of it before getting splatted on the sand. Yours truly tried this a lot as a kid. Usually you fail. Definitely worth watching! Watch the movie!
9) Visit Little Corona Beach - Little Corona is a jewel of a beach. The waves are perfect and it is such a small beach you feel like the crowds of California are far away. The rocky shoreline on the edges are lovely tide pools. This is petfriendly at certain hours - please check the rules. As you look out to sea, on the right, there is a v-shaped rock where the waves crash over and form a "whirlpool" effect. Be careful if you play with it! Directions and Description

The Newport Beach Historical Society recognized the fleet as a permanent local historical landmark dedicated June of 1969.
